A Prayer at the End of the Day

As I drug myself and my tools to the truck I could only say “Thank God.” Yes! Thank you, dear God, for getting me through this day. It has been a challenging one. With each step my bad knee reminded me that I was getting old. All the climbing up and down was more difficult than usual. Several times throughout the day ugly words belched up from my heart and I had to clinch my teeth in order to keep them from escaping my lips. An elder associate (actually a month my junior) with a bad back, bad knees and feet…in obvious pain…cheerfully sang out “How are you young man?” and “I love my job”. He shows more fortitude than I. And you, Lord, I guess you did not have such a great day either on that fateful Friday…but you mustered the strength to get the job done…without as much as a whimper.

If it’s not too much to ask please give me a little more staying power.
And please, Lord Jesus, put a smile on my face instead of a grimace.
Thank you for showing me the way, the truth and the life.

Amen.
